Could you not try installing the end it all programme in compatibility mode
under windows 7?

out of interest, did you ever actually use end it all?
one of the great things about it, was that one could protect certain things
from being shut down, such as anti-virus/security software, screenreaders,
etc. and just shut down everything else, with out needing to pick out
individual items, and remember what they are all of the time, as one has to
in task manager.
that is the type of program I am looking for if possible.

Simon

, task manager does a good job of that, it identifies what the programmes
are by their names as well as their processes in windows 7.

neither, I am looking for a program that will tell me what things are
running, and let me close down those I don't need, in order to free up
memory and CPU resources.

Are you looking for a command to force shutdown or force a restart? If so,
http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/windows7/windows7_shutdown_command.htm
Gives info.
