I don't use tongue clicking, but sometimes if there's a bus going past and I'm near an open space or doorway or something like that, I'll tap my cane much louder than normal to hear where I am. I can hear the difference between solid walls and fences/gateways etc without having to do any clicking/clapping etc. Interesting to hear about other techniques though.

Finger flicking/clicking also produces the same result, and you can clap or shout too.

Hi,

what do you think of using tongue clicking as a way to
get information about the environment? apparently totally
blind people can tell where there's windows on a building
or pillars in front of them from several feet away using
tongue clicks. i'm skeptical myself, does any one use it
and what results have you achieved?
