Hi Janet
It isn’t a stupid question. Basically they do a lot of the same things, but
the differences really lie in their philosophy. For example, Amazon is a
shopping giant, so Alexa will add items to your shopping basket, tell you if
you have a delivery pending, enables you to play Kindle books and access Amazon
Music. Google, on the other hand, is based on its search engine, so perhaps
has a wider scope of information you can ask, for example, local shop phone
numbers and some directions to nearby facilities.
I have and love them both for different reasons.
Kind regards,
Jackie Brown

and the echo? Janet
