Thanks Tristram.

The link produces an error saying the download you requested is not
available. If it will be pushed out on the normal automatic update I will
have to wait for that.

Dear Mark and anyone else experiencing this error. Some of you who
downloaded the latest patches from Microsoft last week, including the out of
cycle Animated Cursors fix will get this error. Microsoft were aware of
some problems with this update before it was posted and other issues came
up, essentially a buggy patch. Users of Realtek soundcards are among the
groups affected by this problem.
Microsoft have posted the following information including a download link to
fix the affected update. This will be more widely pushed out in the normal
patch cycle this Tueday through the Windows Update mechanism, so most people
should get it provided their PCs automatically download the updates or they
go directly to Windows Update themselves and run it through.

Please be careful with the following link as it wraps accross two lines and
therefore you may need to copy it into your browser directly:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?
familyid=74AD4188-3131-429C-8FCB-F7B3B0FD3D86&displaylang=en

I successfully helped someone apply this fix last night who had this problem
with the result that installing the update fixed the problem.

Regards.

  Subject: [access-uk] dll relocation error

  Hi all.

I keep getting the following error message at startup on my laptop running
XP Media Centre edition. It started last week when I rebooted following
what I assumed was an automatic windows update. Any ideas?

  Start of error message.
  ---------------------------
RTHDCPL.EXE - Illegal System DLL Relocation
  ---------------------------
The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will
not
run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL
C:\WINDOWS\system32\HHCTRL.OCX occupied an address range reserved for
Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for
a
  new DLL.
  ---------------------------
  End of error message.

Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated.
