Ray and all,

Whilst not in any way wanting to suggest that they should give us anything less than full access to their WEB pages and forms, it's worth noting, for those who want to take things easily and just get the job done, that you can renew by phone, very painlessly. I've done it a couple of times now and frankly haven't thought it was really worth the bother of looking on the WEB pages to do it that way.

If anyone should want to do this, call 0191 218 8103.

Andrew and all, I wonder precisely (how) differently or unequally we are being treated here?

I'm not trying to muddy the waters, but looking at the site for Railcards in general, i.e. Senior Citizens, Young Persons, Family Railcard, it seems that before prroceding you have to register with the site by entering your email address and setting up a password.

The Disabled Persons Railcard site seems separate and adopts a different procedure. It is also designed differently to meet web accessability needs. I have no way of knowing what things are like when applying for the other three railcards, but prsumably you can apply on-line, but maybe, or I would imagine, you have to furnish proof in the case of Senior Citizens and Young Persons cards that you do actually belong to those categories on applying
for the first time. Renewal should be more straightforward.

It looks as if you can apply via an on-line form though, whereas we cannot. In other words, our site is very much a different site, with seemingly, a different clearing process.

Incidentally, there is a button to have the disabled persons railcard page read out to you by a woman who sounds as if she's situated in a loo or maybe the hallway to the office. I haven't worked out how that might help you use the links on the page, but maybe there are
access keys for that.

Hello Dave, I know the form is possible to be done, the thing that is
getting to me is when I was told it isn't cost affective, when this was
said to me I really saw red, if they can do it for everyone else then why can they not do it for us. this type of thing that goes on really does get my back up and I for one am fed up of people thinking they can get away with
what they do.

Hi,

I helped design the See It Right guidelines and RNIB's internal guidelines
about things like this some years ago. In my experience there are two
approaches to forms that can work. One is to simply do a text based form
with all the questions down the left and no dots or dashes or anything so
one can answer to the right. The other is a two column table where you can
right answers in the right hand column. Both should be OK these days.
Obviously, for renewal, an HTML form would do. They could simply take
your details via the form, process it off line and email you the
confirmation.

Cheers
Dave

Hello All, I am in contact with a lady at the disability rail card
place, she is trying to design a form that is accessible to us, so far
I have had two different ones which I find no good at all, If there is
anyone out there that would like a copy of these then please give me
your email address and I shall send a copy of these to you, also tell
me if there is any thing that you would like to see on the forms and
Shall try my best to put it over to them. Ian I am not trying to do your
job for you but I did tell this person that I would help them to sort a
form out which is best for us to use. I shall not give up on this
until it is sorted out.
