Steve, Don't think it can be illegal to save the security number, as Tesco
online stores ours.

Hi  Steve
I assume if a company  allows  direct debits  this would solve the problem.

Send email to place order.
Then as part of the email,  just say:
Please change to  direct debit.

Hi Derek,

We can save details, but only with your explicit permission.

I also believe we can't save the security code on the back of the card, as
it is illegal.

Also the company has to be PCIDSS compliant.  We are.

All the best

Steve

Well it would be much easier if company saved our details.
That way  we could  place  orders via email,  and  just say:
"please charge to card"

Look for a sequence of 16 digits? Or 4 sequences of 4 digits? This is simple
but easily broken in many ways, one of which you've already described.

How does email software know whether  numbers are credit debit  > card
numbers,  or just long  reference numbers.

I have been mailed the  following

"Due to email security our software has been updated and will block  >
any email which are sent through containing credit/debit card details.

I appreciate this is currently the process that you use so could I  >
please request that you include half of the card number in one email,  > and
the other half in second email. The remaining security code and  > expiry
date can be  in third email."
