Hi Andy

I've just had a word with PC world and they sell the creative Soundblaster
live 24 bit external soundcard for £39.95 - the sales stock code is: 790349.

The soundcard has a Sony Philips digital interface or SPDIF, which I imagine
is both input and output. The SPDIF takes either a 3.5mm coaxial lead or an
optical fibre lead, so your DVD player should work with it. However, please
do not take anything I've said as gospel, and please do visit your local PC
world store and get the information straight from the horse's mouth. That
way you can take it back if they've sold you the wrong thing.

As I've said, I do not use the optical interface of my external soundcard
because it needs a sighted person to set up the link.

Oh yes, the card is a USB device about 4 inches by 3 inches by one inch
high.

HTH

Hi Steve.

That's a pity about requiring sighted assistance on the creative
Soundblaster card, for turning on the optical output. You said "
input/output. Does the card's optical output also serve as an optical
input?

I am wanting to hold onto my current internal card and run jaws through
this.

I'm wanting to run my music collection out through the optical out to my AV.
If the card does have an optical input, then it would be possible for me to
plug this into my DVD Recorder's optical out, in order to record AD movies
which may be showing.

However, is this card an external card? Does it plug into my usb socket?
And finally, any idea of the cost. Sorry to give you all these questions at
this time of night mate

Best wishes.
Andy
