Philips post putting us right on the Council Tax reduction was very helpful.
Thanks for that Phil.Still, I wonder how many of us have a 'special room' where
all our 'special needs' are housed. Or, is that the way it works?
I've mixed feelings about Trace's comments about blindness. Certainly
Government ministers in the recent past have given the impression they regard
visual impairment as somehow very secondary in its effects compared to physical
impairment, but I think the truth of the matter is more complex and profound.
We are profoundly hampered by things relating to communication needs, in my
view, and this list plays its part in aring some of these issues. We do get
some financial recompence, i.e. TV licence reduction, free directory enquiries,
to name two. To my mind though there isn't nearly enough recognition of our
needs, financial and technical, when it comes to computer access.
I could also comment at length on how much our exclusion in mobility isn't
nearly well enough recognized, but this is the wrong place for that.
Its a funny old world though. Many, if not most Deaf people do not regard
themselves as disabled, which I find very strange. (Not refering hear to
deaf-blind people though.)
