Hi David,

I think you will find that when an overnight update takes place when
you are not arround, the system will wait for a given period of time,
and then tell the (non-existant) operator that it will boot
automatically in xx seconds if you do nothing.

On the subject of spontaneous rebooting, I was reading an article
yesterday where it was stated that the on-board backup BIOS battery
was known the cause this problem. Hence they advised that if your
system to 3 or 4 years old or more, it was worth getting this checked,
or for the few quid involved, replacing it anyway. And even if it
wasn't that old, get the battery checked.

George.

Hi John,
it depends on how the computer is set. On a number times I have found
that my computer has re-booted overnight and is at the log on prompt.
When I get to the desktop, a dialogue box will appear stating that
Windows as downloaded and installed an important update causing your
computer to re-boot.
