No John, if the shutdown is caused by overheating, then its best left on top
of the desk.  I'd get a can of compressed air as soon as possible and give
it a good cleaning. If your system still shuts down after this cleaning,
then you might consider whither the fan is failing.

thanks peter.  will do that.  will look into it on monday but can open extra
air vents in my room now to let more cooler air circulate.

at the moment my pc is sat on top of my desktop do you think it would be
better in the tower part of the desk below?
