Personally, I would do a disk cleanup first, followed by a scandisk and defrag. This is actually the order based on the drive's properties. Hope that helps. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Yusuf" <yusufaosman@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Damon, I think to get a hastle free defrag you should try and have as few programs running as possible. Can you disconnect from the net? If so you can safely turn off any firewall and anti-virus software. I personally haven't had to turn off the screenreader, and of course if you do unless youve got some useful vision you won't know whats going on.Have you done a scan disk first? I can never remember which order those 2 things are supposed to be done but perhaps if you try that first it may help fix whatever is causing your defrag problems.HTH Yusuf----- Original Message ----- From: "Damon" <damon.rose@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, August 07, 2007 4:30 AM Subject: [access-uk] computer housekeeping HI all.For some reason I can't complete a full defrag. It's a little confusing. It gets to around 10% and stops. Is there any reason why the existence of jaws, for instance, might cause this problem? I think it's a long running problem for me.My screensaver isn't on. But my Virus checker, Mcafee, is still on. Might this be the issue?Any system cleaning or tidying tips most appreciated.
