Jackie, that was a funny story. Thanks and I also have a question I hope was not already addressed here. Different light sources affect what color an object may appear as. I suppose the truest color reference is established in so-called natural sunlight while flourescent light turns things more bluish and incandescent light bulbs turn things more reddish-orannge. So do any of these color detectors have settings for different light sources as that can account for mis-readings otherwise.

Hi Andy Oh it is still available from Caretec, UK dealers being Force Ten Co and Computer Room Services, to my knowledge. I don't know how much it is incomparison to little Colorino, but it has the same male voice, and he can becharged up. I've had it for three years, and I've only charged it once. What it does that Colorino doesn't, apart from all the other gimmics, istell you the colour and the saturation as well. I'll honestly never forgetonce when I took it into S and S so that Will, who works on technical support, and was one of my favourite colleagues, could play with it. He took it round the office to try different garments people were wearing. When he got to one person in the sales team, it told the Colortest 2000 thathe had an off white shirt on, but added that the saturation was a murkywhite. The person concerned chimed up with: "The cheeky b****rd, suggesting my washing is grubby". I tell you that Will and I were in hysterics, alongwith everyone else in earshot, it was so funny. In my experience, allcolour identifiers have their quirks, but boy they have their fun too! (bigsmile). I have to say it's really good aswell, but I honestly don't know how much it costs. This device does otherthings that I've never played with too. For me, the Colorino certainly has a place, as it is accurate enough in many cases, and great for sorting out odd socks, as long as you can learn that when it says gray/green, it means beige <smile> - Andy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Williams Family" <welivehere7@xxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, August 21, 2011 2:59 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: colorinoHi Andy Many tha nks. very interesting. Jackie's tip of lying a garment flat on a firm surface is a good one. I have also found that if I put myfinger behind a garment, and then press that bit of the garment against the detecting hole on the device, I can get more accurate results. For example, just putting the Colorino against a garment that is white, it may tell me it is light gray, but if I push the material in to the tip ofthe hole, it may then see it as white. I always take 2-3 readings becauseof certain inconsistencies. Yes, I too have found that it can see dark brown as black, and almost never is it able to tell navy from black. I still find it useful, if not perfect, and use it, with a combination offamiliarising myself with the colours of my clothes from textures/buttondifferences. But of course some of us have identical garments of different colours, and if the colours are close, such as similar but different shades of blue, the Colorino may struggle to see the difference, then some other way of identification is required, if it's that important. Personally, I'm very fussy about what I ware, and although I have sighted help, I like to be independent, and won't usuallybuy things that are too similar to each other in both style and colour. Ihave a number of polo shirts for example, all the same to the touch, butsufficiently different in colour for the Colorino to identify. It's important for me to choose colours that are right for my colouring too,and that's where I need sighted help too. But that's just me, others areless particular - Andy----- Original Message ----- From: "Williams Family" <welivehere7@xxxxxxx>To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, August 21, 2011 9:54 AM Subject: [access-uk] Re: colorino-------------------------------------------------- Hi Jackie My wife bought it following a recent deterioration in her sight. She hasbeen very disappointed so far. the device doesn't seem to tell the differnce between black and brown for instance. will try your tips, manythanks brian : "Jackie Cairns" <jackie.cairnsplace@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, August 21, 2011 9:49 AM To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [access-uk] Re: colorinoHi Brian While none of the detectors I have ever found and used are perfect, the Colorino is, personally, one of the best devices on the market. Here are a couple of tips: 1. If possible, lie the garment you want to identify somewhere flat rather than wearing it, then try to see what colour it is.2. Hold the device so that the identifier is down and firmly over the garment so that it does not let in any light when you press the buttonto see what colour you have. Similar colours can be a bit hit or miss, for instance, white and cream, or black and navy, or sometimes various browns. But it definitely will differentiate between light blue and navy, for example, black and white, light pink and rose pink, light and dark purple shades, etc. I hope this is of some help. It doesn't seem to be able to tell the difference between brown and black pus other colours. What have others found? I believe there may be a colour detector for the ipod touch, have others found analternative to the colorino. A very expensive product considering whatit can't do. brian ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq
