Hi Les,

My Chromebook certainly doesn't echo passwords, but why do you need it to?
You wouldn't want it shouting out letters when you enter a password.  JAWS
doesn't do it either, neither does NVDA.

So I'm not sure what the problem is, unless you are saying that ChromeVox is
not saying anything.

All the best

Steve

Subject: [access-uk] chromebook login screen accessability

Hi: I've just acquired a new Chromebook (an Asus something or other). I'm
having difficulty with the login screen. There is no straightforward way to
echo the password field in clear text, like on Android. I did stumble across
a loop where it does present an option to do so, but I cannot reproduce it.
SmartLock is anything but, constantly prompting me to move the phone closer.
The only way to get it any closer would be to ram it inside.

The screen reader is enabled, but even so key presses aren't spoken, unless
the Search key is pressed or in sticky mode, or entering text into a edit
box. This makes it difficult to enter keyboard shortcut sequences, such as
anything starting with control, shift, alt etc.

I get the feeling I just don't get it. What am I missing?

Thanks.
