Oh, I think it's the num lock key where you get the beep, not the Ctrl key.
Glad it's the setting you were looking for.

hi caroline, many thanks, that's exactly the setting. means you get a
bleep on the caps lock, scroll lock and one other i can't remember. it isn't
the control key though.

I think the setting you want is in Control Panel, Accessibility Options.
You then need to check Use Toggle Keys. This does seem to produce a beep
for other toggle keys such as the Ctrl key as well, but at least it works
for caps lock.

hi all, on my old pc, when i pressed the caps lock key, i used to get
a beeping sound, a slightly different sound for on and off. i don't get that
on this pc and i can't find an option anywhere. am i missing something? not
a major problem, but it was helpful, now i don't get any sound at all from
it.
