[access-uk] Re: can i turn off my firewall

Hi all,

Replying to my own message, I am actually reviewing my thoughts on this. If
something gets past a hardware router as an Email attachment, and you run
it, it could potentially do something wicked if it phones home, so I reckon
a software firewall as well probably isn't such as bad idea.

I think Looknstop is the most accessible at the moment, but I am also trying
Nod32 Smart Security's firewall.

I am glad this was brought up, as it makes us think.

All the best

Steve

Hi Jackie,

Well, you can run tests like Shields Up at http://www.grc.com. These are
not foolproof, but they certainly help to be informed.

All the best

Steve, how do you know that you are behind a good router though. That's my
point really. I don't know because I'm not technically savvy, so I just
leave well alone and draw some comfort from the knowledge that I've done all
I can to protect myself. See what I mean?

Jackie
