What are rj 11 and rj12 cables used for?I find them in the list of cables
available but can't find out what their use is, everyone should know I
suppose.
Thanks for any info.
Hi Marie,
I very much doubt the cable which goes between the Livebox and the Telephone point is the same as the RJ45 network cable.
Unfortunately I'm not up to date with the French telephone system, however my best guess is that it is a different cable, probably similar or the same as is used in the States and UK.
George.

Hi George, thanks for all the info, very useful, my livebox is a sagem model not an avantel but apparently, they are very similar. I have called support at Wanadoo because I get disconnected frequently and my pc locks up when it happens. They say it happens because the cables connecting my pc to the livebox is usb and the cable linking the livebox to the phone socket is probably not shielded and distorts or loses signal. I live quite near the telephone exchange so, the problem can't be linked to that. That's why I want to change the connection. So, the cable linking the livebox to the pc and the cable linking the livebox to the phone socket is exactly the same, is this right? or am I still missing the point somewhere? If so, I shall order two cables of different lengths as required from Belkin but I've got to be sure that's the right thing to do. Waiting for your reply or anyone else in the know for that matter. Thanks in advance to all.
Cheers now,

networkHi Marie,
The port you are connecting with is described as an "Ethernet RJ45 10/100-BaseT"
You want a perfectly standard RJ45 straight throughsitecable, of whatever length you need. They are used in networks world-wide, so you should have no difficulty in finding suppliers. Any local computer store should have them off the shelf.
A major supplier is Belkin, who also have a French webdohttp://www.belkin.fr. Look under Accessoires de bureau, then Câbles. After that, look for Networking (in French of course).
One example of a metre long cable is as follows, but theyRJ45other lengths as required.
BTW, the Wanadoo modem is in reality an "Inventel DV4210". Inventel are a French company, (no surprise there) http://www.inventel.com/
Inventel 35 rue Tournefort 75005 Paris France

Sorry to one and all but now I'm totally confused. What I need is a cable, not a plug, thought the cable connecting my phone line to the livebox, modem router was called an rj 45. I need the cable to connect the ethernet card inside my pc to the modem router. Would rather buy it online but to do this, of course, must be sure of its type and name.
Most grateful for any help.

what you need forHi,
The DSL goes through the RJ11 socket, the RJ45 plug isthe Ethernet to your computer. If these are the sameBoxes thatmyWanadoo have in the UK, the USB port emulates anotherEthernet card in[mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalfthe system processor, which yes will slow things down.

ah, as usual, I didn't use the proper terms I expect, Iat the moment,of Wanadoo and I suppose it should be called a modem router,
it's plugged to a phone socket with a rj45 and a usbto my pc, Imyconnection will bewant to use the eternet card on my pc because I'm told the
more reliable and faster.
Thanks for your help as always, Andrew,
