Hi Allen, here are the steps:
To check your hard disk for errors:
1. Highlight my computer and open it.
2. Right-Click the drive you wish to scan, then scroll to properties. Or press alt+enter on the selected drive.
3. Press CTRL+Tab to open the tools page, then make sure that the check now button is in focus. Press enter, and scan disk will come up. Now press the start button to start the check.
To defragment your hard drive:
1. Do the same steps as above, except the following:
2. Ensure that defragment now is in focus, and activate it.
3. Disk defragmenter will now do its work. At the end, you'll be asked if you want to quit defragmenter. Activate the yes button.

If the audio is sounding like it's buffering, it sounds like your hard
disk needs a bit of maintenance. Have you performed a scan disk or a
disk defragmenter? Just a couple of suggestions there. Hope that helps,

problem by burning the offending files with Nero and they performed
perfectly both in a seperate mp3 player ,as well as in the computers cd

I hate to say this, but "meagre resources" is something of an
understatement. Upgrading the memory will possibly help, but you may
just
be throwing good money after bad for this application.

I don't know about where you are located, but here in Northampton in
the
U.K. for example, there are one or two second hand dealers who will sell
you
a PIV for not much more than 256 megs of new memory.

Hi List Members, I have just started downloading M P 3 music files via

,F T P Server,, and I am experiencing what I would describe as
buffering!. I am playing them directly from the hard drive useing
,Windows
media player, first up I am useing Win 98 s e, with only a P 2
prosesser
and just 64 meg's of ram, would such meager resourses be the main
problem
?,if so apart from upgradeing the ram etc,is their something I can do
