Alison - all

Almost five years ago I had an incident arising from a domestic unit.

Initially, as ever with trauma, the situation seemed horrendous.

Quite soon, I was given a good piece of advice, to employ an independent
loss adjustor to negotiate with those appointed by the insurance company.

Yes, it cost me seven and a half per cent of claim value, plus the dreaded V
A T, but it was worth every penny.

The total claim ended up at £340,000.

The so-called, independent loss adjustors, as appointed by the insurance
companies are obviously working to keep down the claim as you point out, and
to settle soon.

In my instance, because of the claim, I am saddled with the same insurers
for five years, and those usurers tripled the premiums in year one, and
increased them by five per cent per annum on each subsequent year.

Having dealt with many peiople in the insurance business over the years, I
put them in the same category as book makers.
I have never met one who is poor!

Sory for the rant!

My husband wasn't amused, Eleanor!
The insurance company also ripped us off. We had a "new for old" policy and
when the assessor came out, he said that if we could keep the claim down to
under a thousand pounds, it would go through within the month. So we only
claimed for the washing machine and carpets (even though the water had
affected the paintwork on our dining-room suite and the wooden legs on our
three piece suite. The claim took nearly 8 months to clear!

My worst washing machine experience was several years ago. We were
going to a wedding in Germany so, before setting off to work, I put a
last load of washing in, slammed the door and off I went, not noticing
that I'd trapped my husband's shirt sleeve in the door.
He was on nights and came downstairs at 2 in the afternoon to find our
pet Sheltie standing on the front door mat, with an inch of water
covering the whole of the downstairs floors. The sleeve had ripped the
rubber seal and as the washing machine eptied onto the floor, so it
had refilled to empty some more.
With just 5 hours to spare before we were due to leave for Germany, he
called the Fire Brigade, but they wouldn't help so he used our Vax
vacuum cleaner to suck up the water and we had to depart, leaving
sodden carpets behind us.
To say I wasn't popular is an under-statement!

In my experience The amount of water used in a washer is never enough
to make it so full water flows all over the floor if the door is
opened mid cycle. The water pools in the bottom of the drum, and may
be up to the level of the lower seal in the inside of the drum, but no
further. The agitation of the water causes the clothes to be washed.
And yes, all machines can be opened mid cycle inn case of machine
breakdown.
If the machine fails, the computer will allow the door to be opened in
most cases.

Does this particular model of washer allow you to open it in the
middle of the cycle, thereby spilling water all over the floor?
