Hi,

You can't install a 64 bit version of windows on a 32 bit laptop, you must
use a 32 bit on that machine.

Paul.

Subject: [access-uk] big problem in upgrading from 32 bit to 64 bit of
windows

hi all.
one of my friends laptop had come with 32 bit vista and 2gb memory.
he wants to upgrade to windows 8.1 64 bit.
i upgraded his memory to 4gb.
now starts the problem.
i made a dvd of win7PE 64 bit put it in the computer and tried booting with
sighted help but it doesnt boot.
i then copied the win7PE on the pendrive and also on a usb external hard
drive and tried booting from each.
still wont boot.
but the dvd pendrive and external hard drive all boot up properly on my home
laptop so there is no problem of a caruppted image.
now is there any way for me to upgrade to windows 8.1 64 bit?
oh ya i also tried booting from windows 8.1 dvd but wont boot.
and as normal i cannot run a 64 bit setup file on a 32 bit of windows.
i have 1 way but its risky and i dont know if it will work.
if i boot into vista and use disk manager or disk part and mark the c drive
as inactive may be i will be able to boot from hard drive or pendrive or dvd
but i think if it doesnt work i will have no way to get in to the system so
its risky.
sorry for the long mail please help me out people
