I saw this the other day, he was beating the front of the phone against the 
fish tank I think and that is why the display was broken, the company had 
underestimated the kind of idiot (in the nicest way) it would be up against.  
Smashed displays must be on the of the top phone accidents that can happen 
because most LCDs are on a glass like substrate and therefore can break and 
shatter.  The display area was not sufficiently ruggedized whilst most of the 
rest of the phone looked fine.
