Vince, have you personally restored your image from an external source using the software you describe, in which case how does it work? Does the software have a reboot and restore option? If not, how do you access the external drive at boot time without sight to tell the software where to find the backup and where to install it to. The one I have, by Verbatim, came equipped with backup software that can back up the Windows system as well as your own work. The software by Nero is easy enough to use, and worked fine with the screen reader. When you're not handling backups, you can have the external drive stored away from your computer, so that if some disaster strikes, you'll still have something to get you going again. If, however you back up to DVD using Image for Windows you can restore without sighted assistance. Backing up to your C drive is all very well till you pick up a bug and have to format and your backup is wiped along with everything else, or you run out of space, which was the point you made in your post.
