No I don't see that message, avast works ok on my other
computer but not the netbook.

I can't answer your sound problem, but have mentioned
before, if you have your incoming mail set to scan for
viruses, then you should see something like this, which will
confirm that the data base has been updated:

avast! Antivirus: Inbound message clean.
Virus Database (VPS): 090421-0, 21/04/2009 Tested on:
22/04/2009 15:20:52
