that's good then, some of those volunteers were awful, you would have thought they would have tested them before hand for quality of reading etc. i don't know why rnib has books read by synthesisers, if people wanted that they could just get jaws or one of its counterparts to read.

Calibre books haven't been read by volunteers for years now. They use the
professional readers same mostly as RNIB do. In fact on each month's list of
new releases from RNIB there are a good few books read either by volunteers,
that can sometimes be really terrible, or by synthetic voices. Calibre don't
do this as all books I've looked at are named readers. All new books are now
on CD's as they've phased out the cassettes. They also do most titles on USB
memory sticks if that suits you better. They also do a streaming service.
They have around 10,000 books and are being added to all the time.

The RNIB talking book service is good and fast and they issue a
newsletter either on CDROM or email telling of new titles.

Calibre audio library costs thirty five quid for life membership and
they are also fast and the site has news of new books and you can stream
some online and create a wish-list.

Despite some negativity on here about Calibre they offer a good service
and have a big library.

Hi

Ok I have two questions regarding audio books.

Firstly, apart from audible what other good sources are
there for buying audio books, I had a look on whitestick
last night but couldn't see much.

Secondly, is there a good way of knowing when an audio book
has been released, I know they often take longer to produce
than print books, is there a newsletter that would tell us
this?
