I definitely second that observation with regard to advertising. I
sometimes look through documentation of mainstream products that are
touted as having accessible features or are thaught to have accessible
features, time and again any refference to accessability is given, at
best, a token mention$this leaves the prospective end user having to
follow one of two routes, one being to purchase the item and somehow
work out how to use the accessiblty features the device perportedly
contains alternatively one can seek advice from knowledgable people
prior to purchase. so in that regard promotion of products and services
should be encouraged within this group since more often than not it is
perhaps the most reliable means of equipping oneself with the
appropriate information both prior to , and after purchase of a given
device or item.

hi all
i understand this is a difficult one about advertising on the list but for
me there should be some leeway with regards to people like mo and steve nut
who sell products for the blind.
you could not get a better service than what these guys provide for us in a
very difficult world of technology and when you think that the rnib do not
sell tvonics or have any input into a blind person being able to use an
accessible tv i think it's great to see mo and steve on this list sometimes
promoting what they sell and do. as i said on an earlier post my mate went
in to the store in leeds to see about the samsung tv's and the sales person
knew nothing about speech at all. for totally blind people like myself i
feel we are getting very much left out and steve and people like mo are a
real help in this sort of thing. it's like the reviews jackie has done on
certain devices again like me with both of us being blind we cannot see
mannuals which are very visual now and also we cannot see screens like a
lot of blind people can so i think we should thank our lucky starts for
people like mo and steve who yes have to run a business to make money but
when you think how we're helped

0was Hi Mo.
0was
0was Thankyou for your responce to my enquiry!
0was
0was My new e-mail address is meikle.aiden@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx and my telephone
number has not changed from your customer database.
0was
0was Regarding this device Mo. I'm seriously thinking of getting one,
despite having a SKY plus and remote, which cost me £40, just sitting here in
my study.
0was
0was I like the idea of being able to arrow Up or down and hear the
particular items spoken out to me, or type in numbers to get me to a
particular page such as 0120 for bbc 6 music.
0was
0was
0was I could probably learn to use my SKY 2 box, but the idea of the menues
and items speaking is very attractive to me. I don't have a SKY account
incidentally, and all I'm interested in is "Freeview"
0was
0was I really think that SKY's £80 a month is downright robery! £80 just to
watch, mostly crap, on the TV each month. I don't think so. I pay BT £37 a
month and I can do loads of different things on my computer.
0was The reason why I want a box is because often, whilst trying to listen,
for example, to the American golf open, during the weekend there , my
computer was saying:
0was
0was to Due to rights issues, we are unable to stream this program to you in
a Windows media format" Go to bbc$co$uk/5live.
0was
0was But I could use my TV to listen to the golf and there is, of course, no
charge for this, once you have the equipment.
0was
0was So that's why I'm interested.
0was
0was I have a friend who I need to pay to travel the 50miles from Glasgow, to
set-up or install equipment within my house He is an audio engineer and very
very knoledgable , but will he understand how to install one of your boxes
into my home system. My home system takes all of my audio from my computers
, TV and the like and pumps it all around my house.
0was
0was I'd hate to get him to travel all the way north from Glasgow and not
understand the particular box set-up re requirements, if they are
particularly specialised.
0was You said that your boxes have an optic out. That's what I need to plug
into the system.
0was
0was good. For my house AV unit has an empty optic socket. as long as my
friend will understand how to install the unit.
0was
0was If I do purchase one Mo. Will you provide installation support
information as well as a users manual?
0was
0was
0was
0was It's very probable that my friend will be able to install this
specialised box and that I will most probably buy one from you later this
week.

0was Hello Andy.
0was
0was I hope you do not miss this message with all the influx of perhaps
mostly pointless messages on list today. If you do, I apologize in advance,
but I don't seem to be able to find your original email address as the list
is filtering it. I'll try and give you a ring tomorrow. To answer your
questions, the box does have an optic out connection for connection to
speaker equipment, though you could also use a scartt to 3.5MM audio
converter.
0was
0was The menus are easy enough to navigate, though I'd check locally in
Scotland to see which channels will be available to you on freeview before
purchase.
0was
0was The cost of one of these boxes is £250 including shipping and support
from us. A manual is provided in print, audio, and via email. Braille is also
an option on request. We would also provide training via phone. We've worked
together in the past, so you know the usual excellent standard of service
would be provided. I hope this answers all your questions?
0was
0was all the best,
0was
0was Mo.

0was Hi Mo.
0was
0was Can you tell me if these devices have a line or audio out, so I can push
the audio through my AV unit.
0was
0was Is it easy to navigate through the menues to find Radio 5 Live or Radio
Scotland as well as check out what's on bbc 2 this evening, for example.
0was
0was Finally, how much do you charge for these boxes and are they new or
refurnished and do you provide any training information as how to use the
machine.
0was
0was If your answers are possitive, I'll probably buy one from you.
0was
0was
0was Very best wishes and kind regards
0was Andy Logue.

0was Hi andy. We still sell the tvonics set top boxes with speech. Everything
on screen is read out. You can also record and pause live tv. Recording names
are read out and audio description is also recorded. Please feel free to drop
me a note off list and I would be more than happy to have a chat with you to
see if the boxes are right for you. These only work with freeview, not sky.

0was Hi all.
0was
0was Thinking of getting one of those talking Sky boxes. I'm really
struggling with my standard box and although I've not watched TV for over 20
years, it would be nice to check out the audio described movies and of
course, good old 5 live and 6 music.
0was
0was Can anyone tell me what they are called, the cost and where I can
purchase or find out more. I tried the RNIB but could not find anything on
their rubbish website shop that sounded like what I was looking for.
0was
0was Any advice very welcome.
