Hi Billy

Are you looking for a mainstream player such as an Olympus, Apple, etc, or
would you consider one of the specialist DAISY/MP3 players? I have written
an extensive two-part article on the four main players which has appeared in
the July and August issues of Access IT. Basically the piece pulls together
the Milestone, BookSense, Victor Reader Stream, and the Plextalk Pocket,
detailing their features, pros and cons, prices and dealers. It may give
you some idea of what they can offer if you choose that particular route.

Enjoy.

Kind Regards,

Jackie Cairns

Hello Jackie, this is the big problem with Apple for me.
The fact, they will not let customers use third party software etc.
I have the iPhone4, and not being able to upload my audio book library is
nothing short of shocking. This is why I am weary about the ipods.
I have Indeed heard some good reports about the Olympus players, and the
Sansa clip + mp3 players.

Anyway, thanks for as usual good sensable Information,

Billy

Hi Billy

I agree completely that iTunes is really crap, least that's what I think
personally, but you do sort of get used to it. I use it on the Mac, and
while I have to ponder every keystroke before I perform a task, I kind of
get there and can now make playlists.

There are lots of podcasts out there on iTunes, no doubt, and how to get the
most out of an iPod. Personally, the advice to have one is sound if it's
music you want. You can do lots of other stuff with an iPod such as add
applications like radio stations, giving you a massive music experience.

Or you could purchase an Olympus that speaks many functions and filenames if
you want something a bit more tactile. There are lots of models to choose
from, and I am not up on what's best with speech these days as I don't use
them. My friends tell me the DM5 is an excellent machine, so you might want
to consider it if Apple really isn't your thing.

Good luck.

Kind Regards,

Jackie Cairns
