Derek, The player itself isn't the problem bit, it's essentially just a plug-in for your browser. The tricky bit is the Flash that the player displays. Flash can be very accessible. Mainstream screen readers have had Flash support for the past five years or so and the techniques for creating accessible Flash have been available for about the same time. Sadly, few Flash developers know the first thing about creating accessible Flash. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) recommend providing an equivalent alternative to any such content. In practice, this is often quite a challenge, but as a rule it's achievable. It's difficult to provide an equivalent experience, but certainly where Flash is used to convey information, there's no reason why alternative accessible formats shouldn't be provided.
