I think you need to go to the app switcher to lock the orientation.

Anybody remind me how to lock the screen to portrait so it doesn't keep
changing?
Also, had a look at languages in settings, but can't see any other English
options other than UK. Anybody say for sure that American and Australian
English choices are still available in IOS5?
