Hi Daran,
1. Boot from the XP CD and do the repartitioning/formatting to *NTFS*
from there.
2. You can do a clean install from the upgrade disk, if you have the
Windows 98 original CD you will be asked to put this in the drive
before the partitioning screen, no data is copied from it it just
verifies the disk integrity, then eventually before formatting starts
it asks for the XP disk again.
