Hi Graham
As I said I wouldn't be able to engage a firewall or AV protection.

Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.
yes you can burn that to a CD and use it. that would be another good way if
you can't easily connect to the net. if you do connect to the net however
you can get Windows to do the update and that way you only download the
files you need which takes less time. Any time you save though would of
course be lost if you need to install USB drivers and set up a dial-up
account just for a one off internet connection.
cheers

Roger,
You can download the SP2 installation Setup file here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=049c9dbe-3b8e-4f30- 8245-9e368d3cdb5a&displaylang=en

Hi All
The wife's laptop has just died so today a new one arrived but without any operating system installed. I have a legit copy of XP Home I've not used so I loaded that. At the end of the installation it asked for the SP2 disc. I haven't got one. She doesn't intend to have internet connection using mine for that. I've tried to take it off my machine but it seems when my system is updated no file is left on Downloads or anywhere I can find. I've tried to download a copy but again it will install it to my machine but allow me a copy. Short of connecting my wife's machine to the net just for the download of the application I can't see any other way forward. Unless someone here can help me please. As she doesn't intend to use the machine on the net she doesn't need SP2 but it will not allow me to proceed without it.
