Thanks. Now not accusing anyone, but if you could just verify websites before posting that would truly help, especially for new users.

Download the MSN messenger 8.5 and you'll be the same as we were a few days ago. I've installed it myself off there yesterday and all is good now.Peter -------------------------------------------------- From: <catherineturner2007@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, January 12, 2009 9:09 PM To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>Subject: [access-uk] Re: Windows Live Messenger was Re: Re: Windows Messenger problemThank you Peter. I've switched off all that junk now, and indeed my contacts still are all showing as offline. This is really bugging me, will have to do some googling and see if anyone else has the same problem. Although from what you're saying about the accessibility of this latest version, perhaps it doesn't matter anyway since chatting wouldn't be as smooth as before. Catherine On 1/12/09, Peter <peterholdstock@xxxxxxx> wrote:Catherine, you should be in the list of contacts as soon as you move tomessenger. Just use up and down it will say whether they are away or onlineetc. You will know if it's the latest version as by default that has favourites and groups at the top of the contacts list so keep arrowing down. To turn the favourites and groups thing off go to the tools menu, choose options and then press SHIFT+TAB until you get to the list of tabs. I think the one you will land on first is 'Personal'. Use the up and down arrows to move through the tabs until you get to 'layout'. Then tab through and uncheck the option to show favourites, and the other option to show groups. Then go back to the list of tabs by shift tabbing again, and move to 'General' and in there you can choose the startup options I think. I always remove the check box for it to show 'Windows Live Today' which is like a web page it brings up when youlog on and is really annoying. Hope that helps.it's a shame you never got to try the last version because it is so much more accessible than the lastest version. For example it doesn't read themessages received by using the ALT+# to repeat the last 10 received messages. But to be sure - could anyone tell me how to move around Windows Live Messenger? Whereabouts do you find your list of contacts and whether they're online? I've just installed it so I assume it's the latest version... Catherine On 1/12/09, Peter <peterholdstock@xxxxxxx> wrote:Hi, a few days I ago I would have definately said upgrade as the benefitsofwindows live messenger to those of windows messenger which comes with XPare quite big. However recently Microsoft released v9 of messenger which at the momentdoesn't seem full accessible and can be annoying to owrk with. It is usable with pracitce. If someone has a link to the Messenger v8 I'd be interested to have itfor my installation of Windows 7. The only problem might be that the installers for Messenger download the software once the installer starts, so no matter what link we ue, it might install the latest version. I'm not sure though. It was fine until the last week or so though. But perhaps I should upgrade and see if that makes a difference. Howdo I go about upgrading? Has anyone else ever experienced this problem? I recently changed my passport e-mail address, don't know if that'sanything to do with it, but don't know what to do...
