Hi Ibrahim I'm staying put with Windows 7 for a while. I don't see the need to change, personally, as it does everything I require. It is just concerning for those who are in the market for a new PC or laptop that they might not know which version to purchase to accommodate JAWS. It must be the only screen reader one has to be mindful of when choosing a PC! Indeed. I'm shocked that FS still think they can differentiate between the two, for instance to get DVD playback in the Windows Media Centre on Windows 8, you need to have the pro pack before you can buy any extensions such as the media centre add-on. Yet another reason if I needed one to ditch the new OS. All the best, Ibrahim. -----Original Message----- From: Jackie Cairns Sent: Wednesday, January 09, 2013 12:50 PM To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: Windows 8 with JAWS question Hi Ibrahim What you have stated concurs with what I had heard at the time of its release. But it is important for people to know which version they are going to get if they are proposing to use JAWS. Thanks. Most laptops come with Windows 8, its just called Windows 8 and unless the literature specifically states it comes with Windows 8 Pro, it'll be the standard version. I'm not going to go in to a diatribe about how bad the software is, I'll merely point out that I completely reformatted my hard drive and installed Windows 7, Windows 8 isn't for me. All the best, Ibrahim. -----Original Message----- From: Jackie Cairns Sent: Wednesday, January 09, 2013 12:14 PM To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: Windows 8 with JAWS question Hi Tris How would you ascertain what version of Windows 8 is running on a machine then? I'm asking on behalf of a friend not subscribed. They have seen a laptop in PC World they might want to buy, but need to know what version of Windows 8 is on it. I think the staff are probably as helpful as a chocolate fireguard! I've not seen Windows 8, so can't really help. The vast majority of machines will have Windows 8.0 Pro on which therefore require a JAWS Professional licensing. There are however some machines with Windows 8.0 (no suffix). This is equivalent to a Windows Home Premium and therefore only require a JAWS standard license. Hope this helps. Regards. I am trying to seek clarification for someone who is thinking of purchasing a laptop, but has been advised that only JAWS Professional works under Windows 8. Many thanks.
