Hi Carol,
My friend and I have had many a fun hour trying to resolve SAPI5 and the
British Daniel voice, we got there in the end!
Sure, if you ever need me, drop a message on here in the usual way and we can
explore from there.
Cheers
Martin

Martin,
You're very welcome here.
In fact, you'll always be welcome in our house if the computer fails to speak
and I can't fix it! <Smiles>

Hello everyone,
Allow me to introduce myself to your group as a new member.
My name is Martin and the first thing I would like to share with you is that
I am fully sighted; I heard about this group from my blind friend and I help
him out from time to time with computer troubles.
My reason for joining is because I am keen to find out from any of you about
your experiences with installing and using the latest version of Windows 10,
otherwise known as the Anniversary Update.
As you may be aware, the Update is by default mandatory for all users who run
Windows Home (although I learn with some tweaks you can defer it to a degree
depending on your connection), so if you have not received it yet you are
likely to get it in due course. If you run the Windows Pro version then you
have a much easier prospect of deferring the update.
Now, the former might well cause a degree of consternation for you Windows
Home users given that there has been talk that the new Update is not
compatible with Dolphin and Jaws software drivers, which are key components
of the screen readers that I am sure many of you will be familiar with.
There have been, I understand, reports that the Update proceeds so far in the
installation and then hangs, at best reverting you back to the previous
version and at worst, well, goodness knows what! It is quite clear that this
can develop into a very frustrating situation!
I also had some trouble installing the Update myself shortly after release,
taking many failed attempts and long evenings (long story) trying to install
it. That said, I think the effort has certainly been worth it and it is been
running for a few weeks now.
My friend is due to install the Update this weekend (it is already downloaded
and scheduled for installation), so if you have any comments or experiences
that might assist him please do let me know.
Finally, if you are after any other advice that a person like me can assist
with or to just give perspective on, I am very willing and happy to offer it
in the long run.
You should note that while I am moderately savvy in computers, I am not an IT
professional nor due to my circumstances explained above do I have regular
access to some of the gadgets, widgets and software that you might typically
use.
But if you do require any assistance and it falls within my frame of
experience, I am confident it can be mutually beneficial.
Cheers,
Martin
