Jackie,

Wondering whether if someone has an iPhone 4 and avoids the IOS update, whether
it will still work on an older system.

It seems ludicrous to me to have to throw away any device that's only 4 years
old. Wars are fought in the Congo to bring you all those rare earth minerals
that go into such devices, bits of gold end up in there, and the impact on the
environment of manufacturing these things must be horrendous. Strikes me we
need a plain vanilla phone of some kind that may not have all the latest
capabilities but would at least work for the duration.

Sorry to be in a rather ranting mode. It's Thursday, it's often like that.

Vince.

Hi Richard

No, just support for the iPhone 4 will be dropped off the pay-roll.

Does the iPhone 4S remain compatible or is this also now defunct?
If so, then this is yet another reason for me to seriously consider android
come September

those latest versions of Apple's operating systems? If you're worried about
the possible obsolescence of your devices, you're in luck -- we have the
answers for you.

able to upgrade to OS X Yosemite. Both operating systems share the same
system requirements: 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage. Here is the full list
of compatible models:

iOS device can run iOS 8. For the iPhone, these are the models that will
still be supported when 8 launches. In addition, the iPod touch 5th
generation will also be supported.

sure to disappoint some users, try to keep in mind that the iPhone 4 came
out on June 7, 2010. It's remarkable that it took four years for the iPhone
4 finally be phased out of iOS updates. Show me an Android phone with that
life span.

nice update this fall. Let's have a moment of silence for the faithful
iPhone 4. It has served the community well, and it's time for it to enjoy a
nice retirement.
