Jackie, Wondering whether if someone has an iPhone 4 and avoids the IOS update, whether it will still work on an older system. It seems ludicrous to me to have to throw away any device that's only 4 years old. Wars are fought in the Congo to bring you all those rare earth minerals that go into such devices, bits of gold end up in there, and the impact on the environment of manufacturing these things must be horrendous. Strikes me we need a plain vanilla phone of some kind that may not have all the latest capabilities but would at least work for the duration. Sorry to be in a rather ranting mode. It's Thursday, it's often like that. If so, then this is yet another reason for me to seriously consider android come September Sent from my iPhone > On 5 Jun 2014, at 10:53, Gordon Keen wrote: > > > http://www.tuaw.com/2014/06/04/will-your-machine-be-able-to-run-ios-8-or-os- x-yosemite/?ncid=rss_truncated > > Will your machine be able to run iOS 8 or OS X Yosemite? > > > > Now that we have a general idea of what exciting new features will be hitting iOS and OS X devices this fall with the release of iOS 8 and Yosemite, there is one important question left to ask: can my machine run those latest versions of Apple's operating systems? Both operating systems share the same system requirements: 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage. Every modern iOS device can run iOS 8. For the iPhone, these are the models that will still be supported when 8 launches. In addition, the iPod touch 5th generation will also be supported. > > > > This is only bad news if you're still using the iPhone 4. While this is sure to disappoint some users, try to keep in mind that the iPhone 4 came out on June 7, 2010. It's remarkable that it took four years for the iPhone 4 finally be phased out of iOS updates. Show me an Android phone with that life span. > > On the iPad front things are staying largely the same. Let's have a moment of silence for the faithful iPhone 4. It has served the community well, and it's time for it to enjoy a nice retirement. > > > ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- > ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] > ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: > ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > ** and in the Subject line type > ** unsubscribe > ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the > ** immediately-following link:- > ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] > ** or send a message, to > ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq > ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq
