Hi all,
Since this is about scanners, I'd like to ask a question. I'm thinking of purchasing an Epson Perfection scanner, so that I can scan in any handouts or other print material I receive during my time at university and afterwards. How accessible, in terms of hardware and/or software, are they? I use Window-Eyes. Thanks for any help. I was recommended to purchase this scanner by one of the assistive technology personnel at my college, to which I've now left after being a student there for 5 years.

If you intend doing a lot of scanning, such as books, I'd suggest you stick with what you have got. I purchased an Epson RX425 combined printer/scanner and have recently discovered it isn't up to the job when scanning books. The belt in the scanner seems to get hot and when the two sides come together, they stick and there is a loud bump as they pull apart. I never encountered this problem with my Epson 1650 which fortunately, I still have. I've decided to return to using this machine for scanning and keep the other one just for printing.

Good luck.

Robert.

Subject: [access-uk] Which Scanner/Printer?

Hello

I am currently using both an Epsom printer and scanner. For purposes of economy of space, I am wondering whether to buy a combi incorporating both printer and scanner. I would appreciate opinions on which model works well with JFW 7 and Window-Eyes 5.5. If anyone has tried both combi and separates, which is best? Any advice or opinions welcomed.

Many thanks.

Marg.
