Anyway Clear Reader from Optelec is another good option.

If your scanner is ok and the fault is with Kurzweil, then you can get the free
version of Abbyy fine reader. If the scanner needs replacing then this will not
cost too much and, again, the Abbyy fine reader would work with this.
