Hi peter, to make this easier, and so you have a text record of the ping results paste the following text into notepad, replacing the www.bbc.co.uk with the address you want to ping. save it as whatever name you like, then browse to it, press f2 and change the file extention from txt to bat. Windows will alert you about changing the file extention. Say yes you want to change it. When you press enter on that file a ping will be performed and the result saved to a text file. Incidentally, at the same time as editing the address to be pinged change the name of the results file accordingly.

I did try what you suggested, typed the word command and pressed enter. I then typed in in ping and the web address and entered again. I then got amessage telling me that it was not a recognised windows external or internal command----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter Beasley" <pjbeasley@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, October 21, 2008 8:01 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: What am I doing wrong?I'll certainly try that if I haven't already done so.----- Original Message ----- From: "Douglas Harrison" <harrison1d@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, October 21, 2008 7:59 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: What am I doing wrong?Peter, I have not been following this thread carefully, but from past experience I think that you type Command then press Enter, and you should get a Command prompt at which you enter the string. Apologies if I am going down the wrong track, but thought it might possibly help.
