OK, what other strange tips do you know about then? I find them all quite amusing, because they're so out there!!

Believe me, Trace, I've seen both working for myself. Rather extreme,
and very much last resort, but if your back's to the wall......

George.

I'm reading backwards, we're not on that old chestnut again are we?
putting the keyboard in the dish washer, apparently it works, I think
its somewhat bizarre myself but oh well.

Another one is that you can put your external hard drive in the
freezer if its playing up, you have to cool the room before getting it
out though and hook it up to your computer asap to get the data off
it before it warms up, not sure it'd work myself but, I just love
hearing all of these strange ideas.

That's incredible, George. I don't have a dishwasher, but I guess a

swill in a sink would go some way to washing them out.

Keep your fingers crossed, Barry, and perhaps leave it for a while
longer.

At the suggestion of quite a few on the internet, I've actually put
PC
keyboards through the dishwasher on a cool wash cycle with no
detergent.

The recommendation is a leave then in a nice warm airing cupboard
for
at least 3 days, turning them over every 12 hours or so to allow any

pooling water to evaporate. Crazy idea, and only as a last resort
before tipping a keyboard, but 8 out of 10 usually survive and go on

for another year or more.

George.

Ha... If only I had taken out the extended warrantee. I never
believed that these were worth the money. Still, would the
warrantee
cover me for accidental damage? I'll leave it drying out until this
afternoon and see if it works.

Hi barry

Did you take out extended warranty when you purchased the streem?

Thanks for the suggestion, Barry, but I've had the Stream for over
two
years now, so Tom's not going to cover it. Still, it might have
only
fried the battery, which I can buy a replacement from Humanware.

Hi Barry,

Nightmare! I did that with a Nokia about 4 years back. The Nokia
did
work again but it's camera was recked and it doesnt' remember the
Date/Time if it's powered off. I still have it and have used it as
an
emergency spare.

Regarding your Stream... You maybe covered still by Humanware if it

is less than a year old. Try contacting Tom burton in Tech Support
Humanware UK tom.burton@xxxxxxxxxxxxx .

I feel your pain! Two days before I went on Microsoft Cert training

(only in the last week or so), I managed to dump a cup of tea off a
side table over my 3 week old MSI Laptop that I bought in Canada!
The
thing was wrecked. I dried it out for 24 hours but when I opened it

the RAM, Motherboard and CPU were covered with stickyness from the
Milk in the tea.
I had to run up to PC World and buy a Toshiba I3 as I needed a
machine
to take away with me. Luckily our house insurance with Loyds are
covering the liquid laptop!

Perhaps it's the name? Maybe we're cursed? Lol Sorry fella I know

it sucks.

Best of luck with Humanware!

Barry.

Subject: [access-uk] Victor Reader Stream down the toilet

Hi all

I've just dropped my Stream down the toilet while it was
playing (Stop
laughing). If you must know, I had the stream in a top
pocket and was
adjusting the fittings on the seat so, thankfully, it was
a clean
toilet.

I took the back off the Stream and the battery out then
laid all on a
towel in the airing cupboard to dry. Has anyone else
successfully
dried out their Stream and got it working properly again
after a
dunking?

As a boy-scout precaution, if it is defunct, I'd like
suggestions for
a replacement. Isn't there a player that's smaller and
has an FM
radio built in? Wonder what my insurance is like.

Cheers

Barry
