Well, my equipment was definitely set up by a competent person. I don't know whether it's the latest iteration of the standard though and don't know how to find out; nor do I want to because the "live box" from Wanadoo/Orange was a nightmare to set up and I have no desire to tinker with it now. But I do know that this kind of patchy experience seems pretty commonplace. Good that yours is working better.

Sorry but this is not the experience I have had with my wireless connection, admittably at the back of my garden in the summer house I have to ensure themac book is pointed at the house but within the house it's fine even when streaming audio.Oh yes and my house is a four bedroom detached construction of modern timber frame with metal foil insulation, I can only guess at what is causing othersproblems but I suspect they have not gone for the latest iteration of the standard or have not had the equipment set up by a competent person. Even then, many of the stations grumble whenyou try to play them. All these new ideas are very well, but some of them don't seem to be working very well. I think for now I'll stick to my old-fashioned wired PC and FM/AM radios. I've found it ok for getting my e-mail most of the time, and usually ok for browsing, but have given up trying to listen to streams on it.How good it is, apparently, depends on lots of factors, like where you havethe router positioned, what other activity's going on in the area, how faraway you try to use it etc. I have my router pretty high up and have foundthe connection much improved since then. But sometimes I still do getproblems like the signal dropping all together every few minutes and this iswithout moving the router or the computer. But at other times it's usable for getting my e-mail and browsing. As a result web pages would eitherloadslowly or not at all, files would either be downloaded as a corrupted copy or download very slowly or even not at all, e-mails would take longer to send/receive or even have problems connecting to the server in the firstplace, and things like that. This is what my friend has been experiencingatcollege. Hope that helps. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Catherine Turner" <catherineturner2000@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, August 12, 2007 9:44 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Warning about AVG and other Anti-virus packages > Hello Chris, > > Thanks for the info/warning, but what do you mean by an unstableinternet> connection? > > Catherine > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Chris Hallsworth" <christopherhallsworth71@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> > To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>; <blind-computing@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>; > <blindtech@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> > Sent: Sunday, August 12, 2007 3:07 PM > Subject: [access-uk] Warning about AVG and other Anti-virus packages > > >> Hi all, >> I know this may sound blatently obvious, but I thought I'd warn youall,>> thanks to a friend, that if your connection(s) are unstable, this may >> cause >> whatever antivirus you're using to Fail.
