Hi Carol,

Yeah, that's true, addresses would be more difficult. Trouble with
addresses in the Voicemate though, is you never know how to spell things,
because it is all done by voice. So if you have a nasty Welsh address or
something, good luck! As far as addresses in your phone go though, you can
always input them with Outlook and synchronise them, which of course,
assumes some use of QWERTY again, so I am not totally sure of an answer for
you.

Not for writing in addresses though, Steve. I'll take a look at the 6260
though and give it a thought. Thanks.

Hi Carol,

Well, they would still have to handle the Voice Mate's keypad for typing
in
phone numbers, so given that, I am still not sure they couldn't do it on a
mobile phone. The 6260 has large buttons, so this would be do-able.
Also,
bump-ons could easily be placed on a phone to give more confidence.

OK, Steve and all, so what would you offer someone who's not very computer
literate and not likely to be, has poor hand dexterity, cannot type or
braille well so relies on speech, and wants good access to names,
addresses,
telephone numbers and diary dates!

Hi Andrew,

I don't find a real problem with the S60 calendars, except for finding an
appointment when you don't know the date. But I now use my phone
exclusively. I never liked the Voice Mate, because of its poor
construction, I never liked the Voice Diary much, because of its
unreliability with keeping data, but the Tadi is not too bad. Having
said
that, I would not personally carry another gadget around with me, when a
mobile phone will do it all.

It also looks as though exciting things are happening with Code Factory
and
Mobile Speak Pocket. You can now get Windows Mobile Phone edition phones
working with MSP, you can then use a program from Microsoft called Voice
Command, and say things like: "What's my next appointment" and it will
tell
you, as well as battery status, signal strength and even play MP3's based
on
speaking an artist's name. Even if you don't have a phone, but only a
PDA
with Mobile Speak Pocket, Voice Command is really cool. Oh yes, and no
voice training is needed with Voice Command either.

If anyone wants more information, please contact me off list, as we can
supply MobileSpeak Pocket, and Voice Command.

Hi

The voicediary is dead, the voicemate is now dead, so unless there is
anything else the Tadi is possibly the only other product.

I used the Voicemate and Imp for ages, but got rid when leaving uni as it
was another device to carry round with me, and also didn't do much for
its
size!

I am wondering whether a possible way forward is to have a specialist
calendar program installed in the series 60 phone, something which allows
you to do memos etc more easily?

Andrew.

Hi all.

While the VoiceMate was useful, it had the problem of being very poorly
constructed. If it were built better it would be a very useful device as
it
allowed you to do a voice search for a message and also use voice for
recording appointments.

Using a mobile for the calendar is fine, but entering a subject line can

take a bit of a while, depending on how much you need to write.

I think there is definitely a place for a voicemate style device that is

reasonably easy to use yet fully searchable. Is there an alternative?
I
know there was tha Tadi but I have also heard that this is not a very
good
product either. no one really seems to have taken to it. Anyone any
ideas?
or is the mobile with TALKS the only option now on offer?

Cheers

Graham

Hello everyone,

I have just visited the Cobolt Systems website news page. Voice Mate
and accessories have been discontinued but Cobolt Systems have a
limited supply of data cables and cases.

Best wishes,
