Hi David
I agree with you on all points. I think the voice used on the Trek is vile,
but I appreciate it is subjective. The Evo10 voices, Ivona Brian and Amy, are
much nicer to listen to, and they sound better on the Evo than they do on the
Fire tablets ironically.
I think the Wi-Fi connectivity on the Trek could be much improved, I wouldn’t
like to hang around downloading a book!
But like you David, I will stick with specialist players as we personally find
them more convenient despite their cost.
Kind regards,
Jackie Brown

Very interesting.
I did not know about the plans for a new camera enabled Trek.
Where did you hear this?
I did suggest to them some time ago that they should consider going the extra
mile and converting the whole thing into a blind Shell Classic type phone
device.
The point about galileo is that I was assured that my existing Trek was
already galileo enabled when I purchased it.
However my latest understanding is that it will be useless for us in the UK
anyway as Brexit has entailed our withdrawal from the EU galileo GPS project.
It will not therefore be available in the UK. Ironically it may be that the
Canadians have a better EU deal and that they may be able to still access
galileo.
The las t time I read about this is that Boris Johnston was loftily saying
that we would, in the UK, build a “world class” alternative to galileo that
would triumph as an global option for us to market. Presumably as we have
apparently supposed to have led the world in Covid Track and Trace management!
I would not hold your breath on any support for this future alternative being
supported by the Trek though.
In terms of the improvements I would want to see with the Trek I agree with
steve that the Wi-Fi connectivity needs significant upgrade including support
for modern 5Gz routers.
The sound chip, although better than the first VR Stream model could also do
with some further improvement. The Trek does not deliver to my ears at least as
good a sound as the Evo 10 players now do, though both the Stream and trek are
clearly far better Daisy Player in terms of firmware.
The Evo 10 is far better than the Trek at eBoo k playing.
I don’t know if the Evo 10 has 5GZ support but it certainly connects faster and
more reliably to Wi-Fi than the trek.
I am committed to the Specialist players/navigation devices so I will probably
continue to purchase both the Evo and Trek incarnations.
I guess my dream device would be a device which has the keyboard of the Trek,
firmware of the trek, sound chip, wi-fi connectivity and eBook reading of the
Evo and the phone and app support of the Blind shell Classic.
Not too much to ask for!

hi Andy,
check thoroughly as humanware are bringing out the new victor reader trek but
not sure when it will be available.
it has a lot of improvements on the existing version including having a camera
in it, a better gps chip that will work with the galileo satellite system and
do ind oor navigation.
they described that when wanting to be guided to somewhere that is in a
building the gps would get you as close as possible, then the camera would take
over to guide you right to the door and beyond.
they've taught it thousands of different types of doors and windows and such
like by taking photos so that it can easily recognise different things.
