Hi all -

In addition to Paul Trainers observation on the time it takes for JFW to speak
at the log-on screen, and again after the desk-top icons have appeared
[something I also experience] there is something else odd going on with my set
up.

Here's what happens:

I hear the Windows Vista start up music, and although I have JFW set to load at
start up, I get no speech, but sighted help tells me the log-on screen is
visible, so I enter my password and hit enter. The welcome screen appears, and
there is what has been described to me as a rotating circle on the screen. This
screen stays like that for over 5 minutes, until eventually, I hear the final
tinkle of music [that always follows after entering the password at the log-on
screen] and then the desk-top icons begin to appear, and eventually JFW speaks.

This very slow journey to the desk-top icons, has only happened since I
installed Tune-up Utilities. I've had a look under MSConfig, and there is
nothing loading at start up, to do with Tune-up Utilities, and I can't think
what else could be causing this issue. It kinda feels like there is some sort
of check being carried out, or scan, prior to giving me access to the laptop,
but there isn't any report of a scan or anything that I can see, so am at a bit
of a loss, and would appreciate thoughts on what could be slowing down my start
up process -
Andy
