Roger, no. Do not plug a charger into the 3.5mm socket, that's where your
headphones go.
The Micro USB plug should be at the bottom of the unit.

I don't quite understand your statement about not needing a 3.5 mm jack
plug. Is not the charging socket the one of the right of the device near the
top? This is the 3.5 socket. If I need to use a micro plug where do I plug
it in? I've only used the VRS once and my son charged it for me. The
instructions have long disappeared. I'll have to download them.
