Hi Jackie.

Thanks. Yes, this is fun. Having loads of it here. Just turned off desk-top scheam and now have a lovely black desk-top.

Funny that the more simple you make it, the more atttractive it is!

Just noticed however that I've got one of those new keyboards with the six pack standing on it's side. this is three sets of two keys, rather than two sets of three. Don't sound like much, but boy, it takes a bit of getting used to. Think I'll invest in an old fashioned keyboard. The reason why they stack these keys is to save plastic, making the keyboard shorter. But it's horrible as you feel disorientated and keep deleting files, rather than moving down.

I've bought three Packard Bell computers and have always been impressed with the quality. This is my first Hewlett Packard and the quality is very similar. To be honest, I did look at a couple of Packard Bell's but Hewlett Packard just beat them I believe.

Incidentally, this is my very first VISTA Mail message. I'm pleased it was for you mate. Thanks for all your help as usual.

Take care.

andy.

Hi Andy

Fantastic! I'm thrilled for you that you've found something you like. I must admit that I rate HP machines, both from the laptop I use constantly these days, and the desktop my son has. They are very quiet and unintrusive.

I've still left mine set to the way it looks under XP, just because I haven't been bothered to change it from the way Ian customised it last summer. It works, and I'm happy with it, so leave well alone.

I'm sure you will find JFW version 9.0 works well with it. I think it would be worth upgrading if you can.

Good luck mate, and have fun!!

Jackie

Hi Jackie.

I'm messing about with my new computer and like it a lot. Pauline is also very impressed. It's so quiet and my 20 inch display is lovely. I don't thin I'll change to Classic View just yet as it really looks like something new and interesting.

I was offered Norton at PC World yesterday and I declined it saying that I use NOD 32. My NOD 32 runs out in a week or so and I was intending to purchase it for another year. However, to my horror, I discovered this evening that Norton is already installed. Not sure now whither to just stick with it as it's terribly difficult to get rid of it from a system. I think you need a special tool.

I've not yet installed my Soundblaster so hopefully, later this week, I'll be blasting out my music.

I'm thus far , so pleased that I opted for VISTA.

Best wishes.

Andy.

Hi Andy

Just to say well done, and hope all goes well. When I got my laptop last summer, I don't recall having to do anything exciting to get JAWS to work. When version 9.0 came out, I upgraded from version 8, and it's been fine.

You will find some security differences in Vista from XP, but JAWS does speak with everything I've come across, so just go for it and enjoy!! (smile.)

Better than an Easter egg eh?

Jackie

Hi all.

Took the big plunge today and purchased a HP VISTA desk-top PC. It's sitting in the kitchen in a couple of big boxes and I'm planning to put it together tomorrow with sighted assistance from my wife Pauline.

I have a copy of JAWS Pro 8 to install, though I am hoping to upgrade this week to JAWS Pro 9, which will probably arrive within ten days.

So I've not done a thing to it thus far. I'm looking for some advice. For example, is there anything that I should do to the settings prior to installing JAWS. For example, I have since Windows 95 used the High Contrast Number 2 display colour option as this is less harsh on my eyes. Should I wait until JAWS has been installed before attempting to change this?

I have a document titled something like Setting up XP to work with JAWS. I have used the recommendations in this document for several years, to change settings to maximise JAWS. I was wondering if there was perhaps a similar document which would tell me how to enable JAWS to work at it's best in VISTA?

So there is a couple of questions off the top of my head and perhaps there is a more crucial modification that I need to make but don't yet know of it. Perhaps JAWS will work with VISTA out of the box, so to speak, but given past experience, I doubt it very much.

Looking forward to lots of advice.

Best wishes.

Andy.
