I can pay the full amount but are HMRC going to chase up Apple or the customers
who have already received VAT exemptions wrongly on Apple products. I'm not
very happy to know people or companies are avoiding paying tax.

You don't. Not unless Apple feel generous enough to do it. It is not a VAT
exempt product. Pay the full whack.

This is the best advice I can give as a former anVAT officer.
There is no Exemptions, but Apple are either confused or trying to push the
boundaries, touched with a bit of kindest.
Ask your local Apple if Apple offer this if they say yes, take it.
They may give it, but trust me when I tell you the renenue have not granted
this, and it falls outside the rules.
