[access-uk] Re: Using the ITV Hub on a PC

I am sure that many on this list will recall that the issue of ITV's lack of
audio description on the iOS app was discussed some time ago. On that occasion,
it soon became obvious that RNIB would not fight very hard to get this issue
resolved: a softly softly approach was deemed best. We were told to contact ITV
ourselves. We have done so in numbers and we still do not have audio
description on the iOS app. It really is time RNIB took this issue more
seriously. Can TAVIP put any pressure on ITV? This is a technology issue which
potentially affects all its members.

Hi Jackie,

It's a disgrace that you have to rely on a different platform for a
different company's service. I'm sure I could do it, but how many of us
could afford to get an IPhone, an Android tablet and a Windows PC, just to
get access somewhere to services sighted people can access anywhere. It is
indeed shameful that the best answer you can get is 'We are aware that this
needs addressing', and some years later, 'We are aware that this needs
addressing'.

Best,
Clive

Hi Yusuf

Yes looks like that's exactly right.  I checked iOS earlier and it is
nowhere to be seen yet either.  It's shameful quite honestly! I've written
to them a few times, along with many others, but clearly ITV doesn't think
it is important enough.  In the grand scheme of things it isn't, but it
would be nicer to follow a programme with AD included.

Kind regards,

Last time I checked Jackie, I couldn't figure out how to do this either and
don't think it is currently possible. It appeared that the only way of
watching catch up TV with audio description from ITV was to use the Android
App.

Has anyone used the ITV Hub on a PC before and, if so, how you find
programmes with Audio Description?  When I go away, I generally take my
Amazon Fire tablet as the ITV Hub definitely carries AD.  But I was thinking
of taking my laptop to cover everything I need instead, but haven't found
anything on the ITV Hub online which points to AD.

Thanks for any pointers.

Kind regards,
