Hi Jackie.

with regards to an external sound module( usb) it much depends on what
the sound card will be used for in the end.

for example if they are using it for music production. then they should
seek out an external card with asio support.

on the other hand, if it is for general listening through a set of
speakers then just about any make will do the trick.

finally, when you remove the usb card/module the laptop should
ordinarily revert to using its own internal sound system..

as for what make of card/module to use. I can certainly have a look
around and see what is about. for you.
