Hi Steve,
I don't think that instability is a common problem with Audacity. Is this a
problem with version 2.0.3? If you know of a problem which is reproducible,
then let me know, and I'll file a bug for it.

I would say don't even do it. Buy Goldwave for about 40 bucks, unless you
need the multitracking. Every time I look at Audacity, it is very unstable
on my systems.
