Hi Tom.

I'd just add that it isn't necessary to set up a scheduled scan to receive updates as Security Essentials automatically checks for updates in the background periodically anyway, regardless of scan settings. You will always know if there is a problem as the security essentials status icon will change colour and will show at risk status if updates haven't for some reason been downloaded or successfully installed.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Hi Eleanor,

If you click on the Microsoft Security Essentials icon in the System Tray
you can set up a scan time which will update the program before the scan
starts.
Just Tab to the, Change my scan schedule and press the Enter key, then use
the Tab key to change the options.
You can also manually update the virus and spyware definitions by Tabbing to
the Home button then arrow right once to the Update button. Tab once to
Update and press the Enter key to start the update.
To check if any virus or spyware was found, Tab to the Home button then
arrow right twice to the History button.
Now Tab once then use your down arrow and select, All Detected Items.
Tab again and if any nasties are found it will tell you what they are.
If there are no nasties, then you will just Tab between the History button
and the All Detected Items option.
Press Alt F4 to exit the program which will leave it in the System Tray.

Tom.

Hi All
I put MSE on my computer but I have run up against a problem, namely, it is not keeping up-to-date. I am not confident enough to go in to the Registry and start making changes so I am wondering how do those of you who use this update it. I have machine with Windows XP Pro and Windows 7 64-bit.
