I also saw this on another list and also the follow up message from another
list member I copy below. The blurb says you can unlock your phone in several
minutes and at £1.50 per minute that can work out very expensive therefore
making John's solution more attractive.

No, please don't ring that expensive premium rate number. You can get the
unlocking software for free on the internet so there's no need to buy the
service.
There's an excellent guide to unlocking your mobile available (for free) on
Ebay.
Also some phones are much harder to unlock such as my 6630 which is locked into
Three & can't easily be unlocked but luckily most nokias don't have this problem
