Chris,

Was this story on the radio last Saturday, by any chance?

I rest my case! (Smile)

George.

Subject: [access-uk] Unlocking a Car 62 Miles Away

Hello all,

This news story broke today in Norfolk (and presumably
Suffolk). It involves technology, so I am passing it on to
the list. I'm not sure if I quite believe it, but it was on
local radio, so it must be true (grin)!

A lady was visiting her mother in the North Norfolk town of
Holt. When she was about to leave, she opened the boot of
the family car, a Mercedes, put her handbag inside and
closed the boot, which then locked. Inside her handbag were
the car keys on their electronic fob, so, as she had not
unlocked the car doors, she was, shall we say, in a bit of a
mess!

She contacted the R.A.C., whose patrol person was able to
open the card doors but not the boot. The nearest Mercedes
garage told her that they would have to smash their way into
the boot.

She phoned her husband, an engineer, who was at home in
Stowemarket, Suffolk, 62 miles away. He said: "Let's see if
we can use the radio waves". In Holt, she took her mother's
cordless phone out to the car and pointed it at the boot. In
Stowemarket, he took the spare set of car keys, pointed the
fob at his phone and pressed the button ... Lo and behold,
not only did the boot get unlocked, but the car alarm went
off too!

Well, if not true, it's a good story!

Cheers,

Chris
